David Swan

David Swan was recruited into the Centre for Strategic Cyberspace + International Studies (CSCIS) in 2012. He was rapidly promoted to Executive Vice-President, Defence & Intelligence Group and is now Director of the Cyber Intelligence Defence Centre.  David provides Cyber-Intelligence to the CSCIS executive as well as submitting reports and blogs to the CSCIS web site. David is a contributor to CSCIS Training Programmes, CSCIS CYBERIMMERSION, CSCIS Defence Intelligence Group, and CSCIS Cybercrime Intelligence Services. Papers published by CSCIS include attack analysis, intelligence updates and GeoPolitical analysis. David leads the CSCIS Cyber Intelligence Defence Centre (CIDC), a cyber intelligence analysis and sharing organization. The CIDC develops intelligence on the developers and operators of malware as well as developing intelligence across the full spectrum of malware, cyber crime, cyber espionage and cyber warfare. The CIDC supports CSCIS and the computer security community by teaching the critical thinking, research, design, and intelligence skills needed to examine cyber threats.

David is an intelligence analyst experienced in Cyber-Security and GeoPolitical analysis. A retired Army Intelligence Officer, his specialties include: providing intelligence training, development of intelligence teams and processes, as well as the planning of intelligence operations. David has a background in Maritime Operations and Maritime Security (ashore and afloat). A former CTO with experience in technology development and defence of intellectual property, David works full-time as an Intelligence Analyst. He describes himself as an Intelligence evangelist, using his military experience to provide training, team and process development to people and organizations who want to use intelligence.  David also operates his own consulting company, providing specialty computer security services from his home base in Vulcan, Alberta, Canada.
